I attended a girl’s soccer game on Sunday at 1pm at Mercyhurst College. The team was scrimmaging a Canadian team who came down for the afternoon. At halftime, Mercyhurst was up by 1-0, the goal was scored by Jamie Laturell. The final score was 2-2. Taylor Hilinski scored the other goal. Mercyhurst played a Canadian team, and from the tie at the end of the game, the teams were pretty even talent-wise. The game was fun to watch, especially since the weather was great. Nothing too eventful happened during the game but it was a good game to watch.

1. What made you decide to come to Mercyhurst to play soccer?
Oh this is a legit question…I liked the team and the coach and I actually get to play.
2. What position do you play on the team?
Center Mid.
3. What is the difference between your spring season and your fall season?
Spring season is just scrimmages against club teams whereas our fall season actually counts.
4. How many goals have you scored this season and describe in one word the feeling when you score.
2. Ecstatic.

5. What is the best part of being on the team?
Having my friends come watch me play and hanging out with my teammates outside of practices and games.

Presque Isle

This past Saturday, I went on an adventure with my roommate Katie and our friend Rich down to Presque Isle. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't warm enough to catch some rays or swim in the lake, but we did take a nice tour of the National State Park. We picked up a map early on to figure out where we were headed and I noticed that the map looks like the head of some ancient creepy animal. Coincidence? I think not...We stopped to get a picture of a picnic pavilion and realized there were many throughout the park. The picnics were deserted considering the weather wasn't so great but it is obvious that they are well-used in the summer months for barbeques and parties. Our next picture was of the marina, located in one of the many little lakes within the peninsula. There were a few brave souls out in canoes and motorboats fishing and having a good time. Most of the bigger boats used on Lake Erie were still covered up and looked like they needed to have a few maintenance issues resolved before being tested in the murky waters. I stopped at the Perry Monument which at first was mistaken for a lighthouse. The monument had a few onlookers who were feeding the geese and "enjoying" the chilly weather down by the lake. Perry Monument is located on Misery Bay, a beautiful area of water that had many boaters around the area. If only it was sunny and about 50 degrees warmer, I'm sure the Bay would be occupied with people having picnics, enjoying the wildlife, and boating. We saw about 15 bikers and rollerbladers on the long bike trail throughout our journey around the peninsula. It looks like a great path to walk or run on and people were taking advantage of the rare absence of snow and ice in March. I had no idea that there were people actually living in Presque Isle! I was so surprised to find about 10-15 houses floating on a little bay in the middle of the peninsula. The houses looked like summer getaways for people who enjoy fishing and isolation in the summer. Surprisingly, the coast guard building was completely fenced off with barbed wire and gates. There is a little speaker to request admittance to the area but it looks like you need some sort of code to even use the speaker. I couldn't get a picture of the building itself since I couldn't get close enough, so the sign will just have to do! North Pier Light: This light was a hike to get to as it was at the end of the pier. It looked abandoned and was kind of the common image of a lighthouse that people think of. Beach picture with ice: I was shocked to see chunks of ice still floating on the lake, especially near the shore! Beach 11: This beach was absolutely deserted but looks like a lot of fun when the weather gets warmer!

WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 is a type of connection online. Most people don't really understand what it is. It includes three key elements: interpersonal computing, web services and software as a service. Each of these three things can be broken down into blogs, business and entertainment. Soon companies will be able to be completely linked together through Web 2.0. New businesses will soon realize that online applications, links to other businesses, and blogging will be a great way to work and stay in touch with employees. Along those lines, people who are looking for jobs will be able to better understand the company through a variety of links and webpages. This may sound complicated, but there is really nothing to it! I posted a YouTube link to help people better understand. Hope you check it out!!

15. Luddy Corsi and Son
Location: State Street and 24th Street
The final building I took a picture of was located on a really steep hill but was definitely worth the trek. It looked like it saw a lot of business in its better days and needed to be updated.

Erie is definitely a city with many decaying buildings. The town would flourish so much more if a few things were fixed up or knocked down. Think of how many great parks or playgrounds for kids could be using all that space! Erie should definitely look at going green!

14. Red Building With Gate
Location: Peach Street and East 19th
This building had a gate in the front of it and was on the classier side of the many buildings I was lucky to take pictures of over the weekend. It still looked pretty old and run-down and could probably use some fixing-up.

13. Back of the Comedy Club
Location: State Street and West 14th
The steps leading up to this building look like they might cave in if anyone tried to walk on them. Again, this was another building made out of completely random materials and looked like a patchwork quilt.

12. Good One!
Location: a random street past 12th
When I saw this building out of the corner of my eye, I got extremely excited. I immediately knew this was my best find. This dilapidated building was made of brick and is obviously falling apart. I couldn’t pull my car very close to it because there was a hilly field in front of it so I instead had to run close to get the picture. After I took the picture, my mind started playing games and I thought I could see movement from inside. So I guess this should be extra credit-a decaying building AND a potential haunted house!

11. Building under Billboard
Location: Corner of West 12th Street and alleyway
This building resembled a barn and had at least 5 different materials that were probably used to build it. It was set a little bit back from the main drag but still noticeable to anyone driving by. I didn’t even get out of my car to take this picture!

10. Cohen Building
Location: West 12th Street
This building was a sore sight for any eye. When I drove past it, I immediately knew I had to take a picture of it. It had all sorts of weeds and plants growing out of the bottom of it and it looked ridiculous.

9. Unidentified Decaying Building 2
Location: Corner of 12th and Raspberry
This building is a huge building and definitely needs to be knocked down as soon as possible. Even worse than the broken windows were the painted on windows on this building. It was another brick building and really looked hideous.

8. Unidentified Decaying Building
Location: 1282 West 12th Street
This building was made of brick but had been painted over so it looked white. Now about half of it is white and half is the original brick. The paint is peeling pretty badly and it makes the whole neighborhood look bad.

7. “Windows”
Location: Cranberry Street
The building located on Cranberry Street was a hot mess. The windows were all over the place and a lot of them were broken. It looked like someone had tried to replace a few of them but they are all different colors and don’t look good at all.

6. Kondu Corporation
Location: 1040 West 12th Street
This was an old docking station that trucks must have used or even trains. When I pulled in to take the picture, I noticed that I was driving over very old train tracks that were obviously out of use but had once been an important means of transportation in Erie. This building was in extremely bad shape and needs a makeover ASAP!

5. Red Door
Location: West 12th Street
This was a last minute decision to take a picture of the red door and I’m glad I did. I swerved my car into the gravel parking lot and I felt like I might just witness a murder at any minute. The doors had graffiti all over them and they blocked the entrance to a building which was once probably very nice. Definitely creepy, though.

4. Restaurant Lounge and Music
Location: 17th and State Street
This building was all boarded up with lots of boards and wood all around it. It was right before the bridge on State and just looked really trashy. At this point, taking pictures of dilapitated buildings felt like second nature to me. I was intrigued by this one because I wanted to know more about what was inside. I couldn’t see anything inside it.

3. Shed behind the Gun Store
Location: State Street (between 18th and 19th)
This shed is ridiculous looking and is in need of a paint job. Or maybe even better, it should just be completely torn down. Who knows what it is being used for-probably something illegal.

2. Gun Store
Location: State Street (between 18th and 19th)
Stop number two: A gun store. It was unclear as to whether it was still in business or not but the building was definitely decaying. I pulled on to a sketchy side street and took the picture while still in my car. While trying to find my way out, I stumbled on building number three.

This past weekend, I ventured into downtown Erie to snap some photos of decaying buildings. I was overwhelmed by the number of buildings that were abandoned or looked as though they were falling apart. I included a brief story about each one. Enjoy!!

1. Hatchison Building Maintenance
Location: State Street (between 23rd and 22nd)
This was my first experience with taking pictures for any class and being in downtown Erie, which I am not very fond of, I was kind of freaked out and ran up, snapped the pic, and hopped back in to my car within about a 10 second time span.

I feel like everyone has crazy stories or hilarious happenings that occur on a day to day basis. Whether they are funny, embarrassing, stupid or just totally random, everyone needs a laugh once in a while. This blog will be used to retell stories that have actually happened to me and my friends. While the names might be changed to prevent future embarrassment, the stories will be legit!
There is never a moment in my life when I'm not laughing and I hope that anyone who reads this at least gets a smile or a laugh in for the day. I love to have fun and my friends do too, so between all the people we know, there should be some pretty funny stories out there with pictures to prove it.

The picture on the right is of my friend "Inky" and I on her surprise 21st birthday party. We are trying to imitate the Whos from the movie "The Grinch". Successful? I think so.
Her birthday was just the kickoff to spring break...although none of us went anywhere fun or exciting, there were definitely some shining moments.
Take, for example, when I took my ten-year-old sister to see a play. We were innocently sitting in our seats waiting for the show to start when two elderly women sat down behind us. They proceeded to discuss, in great gory detail, their colonoscopy appointments and other organs that were falling apart or out of place. I shook silently with laughter as my sister buried her face in her hands like a true ten-year-old would and burst into laughter. I turned around to get a glimpse of who was talking and both women had on unflattering tanktops that showed all areas of the body that were saggy or flabby. We couldn't control our laughter!
